Final Work
markets and the fleas that inhabit them
Evaluation
This project I stepped out of my comfort zone and challenged myself to start interacting with the world around me and explore. In the early stages of the project I believe I did well to research and find a variety of topics that interested me, pushing through the initial confusion I had about the project and finding topics to look into and ‘report’ on. As the project moved forward, I engaged well with guest speakers and classes to utilise the knowledge to help with my own project. In this project, unlike the others, I allowed myself to be directed during tutorials and come to them with more of an open attitude of where I could take my project.
The ‘markets and the fleas that inhabit them’ zine I believe is true to the original sketches and atmosphere that they created, whilst adding a little more polish and making them more digestible to a potential viewer. However if I were to improve some aspects, the title, contents, zine statement pages and the back cover background, would be redrawn traditionally and then scanned in for the zine. I find their completely digital aspects, the extremely clean edges and unshifting tone, detach them slightly from the core content of the zine, disrupting the flow a little bit.
Overall, this project challenged me to step out and observe, to draw from life and record others in a less structured manner. I challenged myself to be more free with my drawings and approach to this project when compared to the rigid attitude that I have had with the other projects this year. I believe I have achieved stepping in this less rigid direction, and look forward to where it might take me.
